TRADE SPELLS PAIN RELIEF

NBA

OUCH!

Feel sorry for the Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd. Having lost their best ever franchise player Luka Doncic the Mavs are hurtin for certain this season. The teams' Israeli owners made a bad decision with their GM hire who they subsequently dismissed. Owning an NBA team is not the same as being in the baby killing business. Doncic and rookie Cooper Flagg could have been a title winning combination. That is in the shouda, wouda, couda category, Juss sayin

Now the franchise is trying to right that wrong by trading Davis to the Washington Wizards. That's a good move for both teams. If healthy, Davis can be a stand out player. The problem is he has had a history of health problems.

The Mavs are receiving veteran Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, Malaki Branham, Marvin Bagley III, two first-round draft picks and three second-rounders. Bagley is the sleeper. The big body man has strong potential.

The Wizards are also acquiring Jaden Hardy, D'Angelo Russell and Dante Exum.

The Mavs apparently are trying to eliminate the stigma that trading away Doncic caused. The since fired GM Nico Harrison said he made the trade not knowing what a fan favorite Doncic is. To compound the problem Harrison failed to recognize NBA talent. Doncic is thought by many, to be one of the greatest players ever to play the game.

Time will tell if that becomes a reality, which translates into, roughly 10 productive years in the league (Bill Walton is an exception). While Flagg is growing and maturing his career in the NBA, Doncic is leading the league in scoring.

The Mavs were fortunate to have had the number one draft pick in the last year's draft. That resulted in selecting the then 18-year-old Flagg. The now 19-year-old has turned out to be a strong player who has adapted to achieving at the NBA level. His productivity could turn out for him having a 20 ppg. 6 rpg. average this season and career.
