PIRATE MASTER DUMPS OKOYE - What's Up With That?

A new reality show Pirate Master is on but the question is... is it real. The first show came off as being more theater than reality. The object is that is a boat full of strangers' try to work together and accomplish missions. If you believe that money is the root of all evil and it surfaces during the program.

The initial show saw that the captain of the ship is entitled to half of the treasure of any found treasure. The crew elects him. There are two crews that were selected by a draw of red and black balls in a bucket.

In real life the captain is a firefighter. He and his officers have lavish quarters. They issue tasks and that sets in motion of them attracting contempt from the crew.

At the end of the show three of the crew are nominated for elimination by the captain and his two officers whom he selected. The crew then vote who they feel should be eliminated or cut adrift. The cut adrift part is particularly strong in theater.

The crew can also create a mutiny if the unanimously vote to do so and the captain is eliminated.

The cast includes ex NFL (National Football League) player Christian Okoye who was a solid player for the Kansas City Chiefs. The show has been televised in America so the results are in.

In the past we wouldn't reveal who was eliminated but in this instance we will as an exercise in HUMAN BEHAVIOR.

HUMAN BEHAVIOR plays a large part in reality series where greed, deceit, jealousy, backstabbing and prejudice play a major factor in the outcome. Reality shows bring out the best and worst in a human beings behavior. This is what drives the interest in this type of program.

Though Okoye was a stellar NFL player and proven leader he will be cut adrift on this weeks show.

The test in human behavior is to know that going into the show you know he will be eliminated. Watch what takes place between he and the rest of the crew that would set in motion his dismissal. With his stellar credentials it raises a RED FLAG and the question WHAT'S UP WITH THIS CREW?

The now 45-year-old Okoye is currently an investor in the Golden Baseball League and owns Okoye Health and Fitness, a company that sells nutritional supplements. He made an appearance as a boxer on the FX Network's Celebrity Boxing special. He also founded the California Sports Hall of Fame of which he is president. He is currently the head football coach at Montclair High School in California.

Okoye also founded the Christian Okoye Foundation to draw at risk and underprivileged children to sports. It's a charity organization whose intention is to capture the passion children have for sports and direct that energy to enhance their educational and personal goals.

Nicknamed "The Nigerian Nightmare," Okoye's six seasons in the NFL saw a league rushing title in 1989, two Pro Bowl appearances (1989, 1991), and three playoff appearances. His career was cut short by a knee injury.

Born in Enugu, Nigeria, Okoye did not play American football until 1984, when he joined the squad at California's Azusa Pacific University. He excelled in both football and track & field, winning seven college titles in the shot put, discus, and hammer throw. His track speed was unusual for someone his size - 6'1", 260 lbs. - and this rare combination of talents led to his selection in the second round of the 1987 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs.

In 1989, Okoye enjoyed his best NFL season by far, leading the league in both rushing attempts (370) and rushing yards (1,480). Okoye was selected by UPI as the American Football Conference's Offensive Player of the Year and earned a trip to Hawaii's for the Pro Bowl, a game that features the league's best players.

Okoye retired as the Chiefs' all-time rushing leader, having amassed 4,897 yards, 1,246 attempts, and 14 games with at least 100 yards rushing, in his six seasons. His 40 career rushing touchdowns ranks third on the team's all-time best list. Okoye was the team MVP in 1989 and was enshrined in the Chiefs Hall of Fame in 2000.

The Pirate Master cast members that decided his fate to be eliminated from the crew include a deputy district attorney, musician, fishing dock operator, auto parts salesman and a receptionist. A male exotic dancer was cut adrift in the first episode.

The king of reality shows Mark Burnett who also produced Survivor, the Contender, Donald Trumps The Apprentice and numerous other reality shows produces the show.

America's Next TOP MODEL

America's Next Top Model Cycle 8 originally aired in America from February 28, 2007 - May 16, 2007. The series will debut in Southeast Asia tomorrow on Channel V.

The winner will receive management and representation by Elite Model Management, a US$100,000 contract with Cover Girl cosmetics, and a cover and six-page spread within Seventeen magazine.

In the selection process the 33 girls who were originally selected were sent to Los Angeles, and were immediately thrown into model boot camp. They meet Top model trainers and judges Jay Manuel and J. Alexander who tested them with a quick photo shoot and a quiz on fashion-related knowledge. Later that day, they met Tyra.

After the boot camp, the pool of girls were pared down to twenty contestants in the casting process. At a party hosted by Marc Ecko, the contestants each had their pictures taken, and the final thirteen girls were chosen based on these photos.

In the television many believe that after the concept that casting is everything to make an interesting television show. In the process the contestants have their likes, dislikes and interests.

ON THE LOT

On the Lot is a reality show competition produced by Steven Spielberg and Mark Burnett (also Pirate master). The show, which airs on the FOX Network in the USA features filmmakers competing in weekly elimination competitions, with the ultimate prize of a million dollar development deal at DreamWorks.

On the Lot premiered May 22, 2007, and airs in Southeast Asia on Wednesdays each week with several repeat shows (see schedule below) The contest structure is similar to that of American Idol, with the initial episodes narrowing 50 semi-finalists down to 18 finalists. There are now 10 with one to be eliminated on this Wednesday's show.

On the bubble (subject to elimination) is contestant Shalini Kanatayya who's film about two superficial woman arriving to a town and a mysterious man presents one of them with a magical pair of sunglasses. With the glasses on one of them begins to see the world in a whole new light. The three judges had a problem with the piece saying that it was too preachy.

All of the contestants have had previous film production experience and were selected for the show based on their previous work. Shalini explained her interest in film-making and how her personal life influenced her to get into the film production trade.

"I am here to tell fantastic stories that move and inspire people across the world... stories of who we are and who we can become.

"As a first generation Indian American, I grew up straddling traditions, languages, and cultures. My mother raised us as a single parent, and I learned quickly about hard work, determination, and tenacity. When I was nineteen, I visited a Buddhist monastery in South India, and knew there were experiences that I could not describe in words. I fell madly in love with visual images and began to see the world in a new way.

"After college, a year later, I quit my job, charged a video camera, and took off across the Caribbean and West Africa to make a documentary. For years, I slaved at every post-production house in New York City and would do ANYTHING to learn my craft.

"In ten years of living between the NYC indie film industry and Bollywood, I have filmed a Bengal tiger in the wild, interviewed His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama, and made hip hop videos in the depths of Brooklyn. There is nowhere I wouldn't go, no mountain I wouldn't climb, in pursuit of a compelling story." .

AMERICAN IDOL ANSWERS

From last weeks column regarding the American Idol judges. The subject was how bad the talent was that auditioned for the show in Seattle, Washington. This is a subject that AI judge Simon Cowell addressed on talk shows before the AI finals with his opinion being that they were the worst. AI judge Paula Abdul said on a talk show that they were "Equally great and horrible." She was closer to the truth than Cowell as three of the top seven AI finishers auditioned in Seattle.

As promised from last weeks column we now reveal who the three American Idol contestants are that auditioned in Seattle that were successful including winner Jordin Sparks and runnerup Blake Lewis.

Fan favorite Sanjaya Malakar who was berated by AI king judge Simon Cowell finished 7th. The successful Seattle auditions. Included is their order of finish.
