ILLNESS PLAGUES AMERICAN IDOL

The exit of Paige Miles largely was due to her problems with her laryngitis illness which placed her in the bottom three two weeks in a row. She narrowly escaped in the top 12 results show but was given grace by the judges when they found that she did so well while being sick.

This past week there was no pity as Miles was eliminated which was bad enough as she continued to struggle with her voice and she suffered an unmerciful beat down from the judges after she sang in the second performance spot.

Judge DioGuardi said, "It was the worst vocal that I've ever heard from you and possibly for the season."

"Judge Randy Jackson said, "That was honestly terrible."

Cowell's negative critique was, "It was like there were five of you and it got worse as it went along."

When Aaron Kelly gave his performance in the fourth position host Ryan Seacrest queried him about hearing that he was also sick. Kelly went on to explain that he had laryngitis and tonsillitis. He also noted that it was going around but didn't specify if it was going around with other contestants or around in general.

That being the case the reality is if all the contestants become ill with either or both of the diseases then there would be no American Idol show this season given the possibility that the contestants being in such close proximity and living pretty much in a communal environment all could become ill and voiceless as was the case with Miles.

As Miles did the previous week Kelly fought through his problem and was praised by the judges for being so clever in selecting songs that accentuated his voice. This past week he chose "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" by Aerosmith. With Miles out of the contest the question is will the sickness continue to infiltrate the remaining contestants thereby creating more vocal problems? Stay tuned…

WHO LET THE DOG OUT? - GET IT RIGHT

Randy Jackson is not calling everyone his dog as much as he has in the previous seasons. In its place he now is repeatedly saying, "Too pitchy."

Last season DioGuardi was more spot on with her critiques. This season she has taken on a star attitude by over critiquing and making cross purpose suggestions. She acts as if she's performing and taking on the Simon Cowell I'm bigger than the show persona. She's upgrading her personal appearance with hair styles and wardrobe. She has lost her down to earthiness.

After Casey James sang Huey Lewis and the News 'Power of Love' DioGuardi said he was in the zone (the ultimate best) to say in it. She added that he was ready to record right now.

Cowell then stated that he didn't know what she was listening to and said "It was like watching and listening to an 80's cover band," (doing other people songs and not original material).

At the beginning of the show Cowell gave a negative review of one of his favorite contestants Lee DeWyze who sang the Box Tops 'The Letter.' "I'm surprised that you chose that song. That was not a recording performance," Cowell said.

Cowell went on to say it wasn't the right type of song for his voice. The irony is that Cowell I old enough 51 and should be experienced enough to know that Joe Cocker had a hit with the same song AND…. DeWyze has a Joe Cocker type voice minus Cockers more gritty sound and soul. Cocker had more soul due to more life experience. Soul comes from pain and suffering and Cowell should know that. DeWyze claims he's had a tough life but he's still young and life inexperienced.

The shocker of the show for us was the appearance of Siobhan Magnus sporting a Sanjay Malakar type hair style. None of the judges mentioned her major change in a more rock star look Cowell did comment that she was overdoing her singing a loud big note at the end of her songs saying that it could turn some of the viewers off.

The bottom line is the judges are overdoing the negative critiques and they only have themselves to blame. With over 100 thousand trying out for the show their negative critiques equates to the judges made poor decisions in their selections of contestants and there is nothing more to say about it other than THE JUDGES ARE TO BLAME FOR THE SHOWS PROBLEMS (except the illnesses) not the contestants that they selected.

DOES CNN SUPPORT ISRAEL?

CNN International is a lot of things but balanced reporting it is not. The British expelling the Israeli diplomat over the identity theft of passports by alleged Israeli assassins received zero coverage on the Anderson Cooper 360 program who boasts that they are KEEPING THEM HONEST. They chose to focus on US President Barack Obama's health care reform bill being passed by congress as well as some menial matters.

The Larry King show is also guilty of not reporting negative Israeli issues. They also spent valuable time on stories of lesser substance. The news shows did report on the matter but when you consider the time 360 and Larry King spent with their so called experts talking about and beating down Tiger Woods it's clear that CNN has its own integrity issues to deal with. CNN should take a good look in their mirror and get their act together if they want to keep themselves honest.

It was the lead story for the BBC and Channel News Asia. For the BBC it is closer to home and more relevant. For Channel News Asia whose primary focus is news in Southeast Asia to recognize the significance of the story is a credit to their journalism integrity.

CNN reporter Anjali Rao was interviewing actor Kevin Spacey. Near the end of the half hour show she asked him about the rumors that he was gay. With a surprised look on his face he responded, "I didn't realize that CNN was into tabloid journalism". Apparently Spacey doesn't watch much of CNN International programming.

CNN International has plenty of time to exploit Tiger Woods private life but when it comes to Israel being accused of stealing passports and identity theft to commit international murders by comparison that issue was largely glossed over.
