ETHICS MAKE A DIFFERENCE

With the attention given to our story SABAY CONTESTANTS FLEEING ADDS TO PROPOSED EVENTS MYSTERY - WHERE'S THE BEEF? That story has maintained a position in the Top 10. It notched the 6th spot in the standings after holding down 5th place last month.

When a contest takes on the responsibility of naming the most popular celebrities in Cambodia it raises the question how can that be qualified? It also raises questions regarding the background and credibility of those behind the scenes involved in the process as well as is this about promoting the organizers businesses or a real honest contest with ethics. If the background of the organization involves international Intellectual Property crimes that aren't considered illegal in Cambodia the ethics issue remains.

The beef or problem was the contestants didn't give their permission to be involved in the event that raised a RED FLAG that something is wrong with this picture. They sent the organization (?) notices to remove their photos and information from their web site. It was a say what moment as well as being one of our most internationally read stories.

The second world's most read story from the Southeast Asian region was that of activist Theary Seng who was the protagonist in the documentary film "FACING GENOCIDE which notched the 7th position. It reveals the plight of Cambodian refugees whose families were murdered by the Khmer Rouge and their flight to freedom. Seng was one of the individuals as a 4-year-old child. One night she was sleeping with her mother the next she was not as her mother was murdered.

The 8th ranked story was our Spots Notes insight to what is now clear WHO'S THE MAN… CITY or UNITED? We laid it out prior to City smashing United when the two clashed to take the top spot in the English Premiere League. Prior to the match we noted that Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini is silencing his critics. The game results were prophetic. Nuff said.

The 9th spot was our Top five Phnom Penh stories which was published in June but reflects what occurred during the first half of the year in the city. Sports took the 10th spot as we noted that THE (YAO) MING DYNASTY IS OVER. The friendly 7'6" Chinese giant succumbed to injuries and was at the end of his contract. The Houston Rockets wanted a guarantee that Ming would be healthy before agreeing to a new deal. Ming who was still in rehabilitation took the retirement option.

The results of the most read top stories overall sports took 4 positions, television reviews 3 and our Phnom Penh column 3.

Sections Most Visited

In the sections most visited the Freshie sub page retained their top position. Much of the interest is driven by the number of former Freshie contestants that were selected to participate in that mysterious Sabay contest. We no longer cover the Freshie contest due to improprieties and disinformation i.e. integrity. Sabay was a major sponsor in the last Freshie contest and not only sleep together in a business sense but also appear to suffer from the same disease i.e. a lack of integrity.

Given the relationship and the questionable shelf live of this contest we decided to place their stories on the Freshie page as opposed to creating a separate page for Sabay.

The major shake up in these ratings is the surge of our television video section moving up from 9th to 4th. Thailand returned to the charts after a long absence. The only story that could drive that interest is actually what was derived from a television review of the Amazing Race where several teams racing on the island of Phuket, Thailand were ripped off by songthaew drivers and charged $150 for a short wait and return trip within the island therefore giving credence to the adage stupid is what stupid does. In this case Thailand showed their greed to a massive worldwide television audience. In the world of GO FIGURE a Travel Tips story emerged from a television show. Nice….

The Entertainment section took the 9th spot. This month it was quite busy with press releases of well known International entertainment celebrities' activities. BIT (Business & Internet Technology) returns locking down the 10th position.

A surprise is the FIFA section taking a slot in the rankings with Number 5. Despite their strike the NBA survived it all in leaping to the charts from totally off in slotting themselves in a shocking finish landing in the 3rd spot. The big news there was our report of Magic Johnson surviving 20 with the HIV virus.

American Idol dropped off the charts but they had the most stories read of a single entity. An interesting observation from our perspective replicates that of Google's discovery in their road to success when Brin recognized that the popularity of a site is driven by the information behind the page indicating how many sites are linked to it. With that vision it verifies that the public doesn't solely depend on Google to go to sites they have already discovered the site and are linked to it.

ARCHIVES

In tribute to the recently completed SEA Games we researched our files and came up an old Tiger Cup title game from February 2001. Also surprising was an old story regarding CNN exploiting a young girl gaining a lot of attention since it was published in our Video Beat column of September 2009. It was a story that we forgot but in our research several search engine sites list it therefore it is exposed again. Peace out…

JUSTA THOUGHT

The irony about this special 2 part NR Top 10 edition is the way it came about and in our research the information that developed from it. The germination of the piece was initiated by the Bloomberg television program Game Changers about Google's evolution and its cofounders Sergey Brin and Larry Page. Like Steve Jobs their brilliance helped change the world but as much upside that there was to their story there were a number of downsides one of which affected us that came about within this past week.

As author Ken Auletta in the Game Changers program regarding their copying books and sending them up to the Internet, "Did they think to ask the author and publishers for permission? There are copyright laws in this country."

Auletta wrote the book Googled: The End of the World As We Know It.

The Google duo started out with righteous concepts and ideals in saying that they didn't want Google to have ads which they eventually did with their ad words advertising concept. They drew ire from their G Mail account users when they placed ads in the email.

They made a mistake in their attempt to map the world with their street view idea and their vehicles were taking in private user information from unsecured WiFi locations. When they were confronted with the matter they agreed to destroy the data.

In 2006 they reluctantly entered into the Chinese market but did not agree with China's censorship policy. Being a Russian Jew he who's parents had suffered bad experiences under such a rule, "Launching a censored site was a mistake," he said on Game Changers.

When we (National Radio) were in China our link disappeared and was replaced with the China National Radio that was written in the CHINESE LANGUAGE. It was the only Chinese language listing on the page.

Now the two Google creators who are described as determined and rule breaking have prostituted their company by permitting their Cambodian service link to be tampered with and biased. As Auletta said on Game Changers, "They think of themselves as noblemen. They think that what they are doing is good for the world. They're just engineers and engineers lack the emotional intelligence. They can't identify with how the world thinks."

TV - VIDEO BEAT - CNN'S EXPLOITATION OF CHILDREN - September, 2009
Nujood Ali from Yemen was only nine years old when her parents married her to a man in his thirties. She was regularly beaten by her in-laws, raped by her husband. She was regularly beaten by her in-laws, raped by her husband. When CNN told her story her life became more tragic but CNN returned to feed off of her again for their selfish gratification. The fact that CNN was shameless enough to further exploit this young girl is indicative of how they practice mercenary journalism and take no prisoners as anyone who dies in their way of a story is apparently a causality of news wars scrambling for ratings.

At 6-4, he has the size and bulk to play linebacker for a professional National Football League (NFL) team in the United States
