There is no doubt that Harry Kane is recognized as an outstanding player. The point being he is not recognized as being a great player.

His performance at this World Cup is raising his recognition profile. His two last 15-minute game saving goals against a strong Congo team justify his greatness. Conversely, he seems to have an image as a silent assassin.

Kane 32, now has 13 World Cup goals, including five at this tournament, meaning only Kylian Mbappé and Lionel Messi have more (on six). He now has one more World Cup goal in his career than Pelé.

In the past we've noticed his skill but failed to check his production… the result was overwhelming. Since he moved on from the English Premier Leagues Tottenham Hotspur three seasons ago to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga League he has upped his game.

Kane's goal production is outstanding. At Bayern he has scored 98 goals in 94 appearances. He registered 213 goals in 317 appearances with Tottenham Hotspur. With England he has an amazing 84 goals in 118 appearances.

The question is can he and England survive as strong Mexico team in the high altitude of Mexico City. Stay tuned…

SEATTLE'S GROWING PAINS

Entering this season was like a crap shoot as many players became unrestricted free agents and the leagues expansion draft. The huge number of transactions was shocking resulting in some teams losing almost 50% of their roster. The Seattle Storm appear to have had the most changes on their club.

Many of their older all-star players have departed including Skyler Diggins, 35 to the Chicago Sky. The team has opted to go young and tall. They have two tall basically just out of teenage players who are from abroad. The teams 5-16 record indicates the squad is experiencing growing pains,

Center Dominique Malonga 20, is 6'6". She also plays for the French national team. Now in their second season she has added 10 points to her rookie average. Her maturation process has resulted in her stats that include: 17.4ppg, 7.6rpg and 1.3apg.

Rookie Awa Fam just turned 20 on June 17. The 6'4" center/forward represented Spain at the 2023 FIBA U19 World Cup where she averaged 10.7 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. During the gold medal game against the United States, she scored 11 points, five rebounds, three assists, and a game-high three blocks, and won a silver medal. She was subsequently named to the FIBA U19 World Cup All-Second Team. S

he is making an impact with the Storm averaging 12ppg and 5rpg. Together this tall duo has the potential to being a dynamic duo.

Seattle is really stacked with young talent that includes a draft pick gift from the Golden State Valkyries 6'guard Flau'jae Johnson. The Vals swapped the Storm's giving them their 8th round draft pick and the Storm selected Johnson. The 21-year-old rookie is averaging 13ppg, 5.5rpg and 2.7rpg.

In addition, Seattle has a new coach, Sonjia Raman. She has a celebrated collegiate resume at MIT as well as being an assistant coach in the NBA. This team is finding its rhythm and motion. If they continue to grow and blend their skills and personalities Seattle will be a force to be reckoned with in the WNBA.

Jovana Nogic

The Phoenix Mercury's Jovana Nogic has decided to leave the team for the remainder the season for personal reasons. She is expected to return for the 2027 season. Her representatives denied that her motives are to rest ahead of duties with UMMC Ekaterinburg and the Serbian national team.

The 28-year-old Nogic is also a professional player in European leagues and the captain of her Serbian national team. Nogi? was the team's third-leading scorer, averaging 10.4 points and hitting 42.1% of her 3-point shots across 16 games.

America is not a strange atmosphere for her since she played for Providence University from 2015 to 2019. She originally caught our attention when she averaged 16ppg. for the Mercury including a game high 27 points against the Chicago Sky in a 91-83 win on May 16th.
