THE END OF THE LINE IN THE FINAL NINE FOR GINA GLOCKSEN

You could see the anxiety on the face of American Idol contestant Gina Gloksen as she stood next to Haley Scarnato as America's voters voted them the bottom two performers. It was the second week in the bottom two for Scarnato.

As it turned out she was saved again when AI host Ryan Seacrest announced that she could sit down. This time the ax fell on Glocksen when she was informed that America gave her the fewest votes and it was her time to go home.

It could all be said in the lyrics of the song that Glocksen sang as tears rolled down her face over cheeks, "Smile though your heart is aching smile though your heart is breaking, " knowing that she became the fourth contestant that America voted off of the top 12 American Idol hopefuls.

It was ironic since she was the only contestant of the four voted off the show that gave a good performance. The others though capable had a bad day and made mistakes, Glocksen didn't.

As judge Paula Abdul said, "It gets tough at this stage." That stage being when you've cut the fat off the lamb only the meat remains and the meat that can be referred to as talent of the remaining contestants is very close. At this point it's a matter of choice. The choice being what singer is more appealing to ones musical taste.

When the show opened host Ryan Seacrest lined up the final nine in lines of three. He then announced that the top three America voted for were Melinda Doolittle, Lakisha Jones and Jordin Sparks. In this choice America voted wisely as they are by far have the best voices.

From the start of the competition Doolittle and Jones excelled in their performances and were the best every week. As the shows progressed 17-year-old Sparks gained confidence and is now challenging Jones and Doolittle for being the best. Of all of the contestants she has improved the most.

Doolittle and Jones have very little room to improve on. Jones is the most surprising since she has no previous experience as a professional singer. The 27-year-old works in a bank. With that kind of background it belies her talent. When she belts out a song at times she comes off like the great Aretha Franklin.

The 29-year-old Doolittle has professional experience as a background singer for recording artists. In doing so she has stage presence. Surprisingly she is shy and continues to astonish the judges by her lack of confidence.

At the close of the show Glocksen sang the lyrics of Smile again, "Though there are clouds in the sky I'll get by." Those lyrics are in keeping with the development of her talent as she experienced before this seasons American Idol.

In the past she tried out for the show twice and was eliminated in the first audition stage and then returned and made it to the Hollywood stage before being eliminated. Her will to win was rewarded to being the ninth best is this season's competition. Overall she was one of the most improved since the competition began.

With her spiked hair with a blotch of red she evolved and broadened her skills by showing the world that she is more capable than being restricted as a rock singer. By singing the standard song "Smile" she showed a versatility that can be an asset to her future entertainment career.

For Glocksen's performance we noted that she was good. AI judge Randy Jackson said she had, "nice control." Abdul said she had a," flawless performance." An my man Simon (Says) said that, "I can't rave about the vocal." He also noted that two girls before her were better.

Those two girls were Doolittle and Sparks who as previously mentioned were two of the top three that America voted as being the best.

For Glocksen life will go on and its safe to say that though she didn't win the competition she wins in life by gaining valuable experience before an International TV audience that numbers in the millions all over the world.

Prior to being eliminated Glocksen answered the question: What has been your proudest moment in life so far? "Having the courage to bounce back from Idol rejection."

Regarding if she thought the audition process was fair she replied, "No, not really!"

Glocksen stated before being eliminated her plans for her future, "Continue to pursue a singing career with original music."

There can only be one winner of this competition but as Jennifer Hudson proved with her Academy Award winning success that losing in the American Idol competition is not the end of the world.

For the determined and talented it is just the beginning as being rejected is a part of life and the entertainment business. Just because one loses a battle doesn't mean that they lose the war.

For the strong that survive it's just a lesson and experience in life. Hudson was confident in her talent and she won her war for entertainment success.

Cowell told her on the show before millions of viewers, "I think you are out of your depth in this competition." Obviously Simon was WRONG ON THIS ONE.

Cowell was right about Hudson regarding that American Idol competition as she was voted off the show, but Hudson's success proved him WRONG when it came to judging her talent.
