DOWN TO 12 AND COUNTING

It was a matter of time when an overrated Jeremy Rosado 19 was the first elimination victim of American idol's season 11. The Florida native was a wildcard choice by the judges and one of judge Jennifer Lopez's favorites. It never made sense as he never qualified for the Top 24 in out opinion. Rosado had an OK voice. He is considered shy but his strength is in his sweet personality that endeared those around him.

The top 12 contestants now consist of six males and six females. By far Jessica Sanchez has the most outstanding voice with Jermaine Jones a close 2nd. Sanchez is more polished in her performing skills. On this weeks performance show she sang Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" and nailed it bringing the house down and receiving a standing ovation from the judges and those in attendance.

Her performance prompted judge Randy Jackson to comment that their job was to find talent and she was one of the best talents in the contest but then he exploded the bomb, "This is one of the best talents in the whole country."

We agree as Sanchez brought Houston to life with her rendition of the song while hitting all of the high notes perfectly. She's only 16-year-old but possesses the poise of a 30 year veteran.

Jones strength is his distinctive voice that he could bring about a resurgence of Luther Vandross and Issac Hays fan's back into purchasing records for the listing pleasure of a quality voice.

Jones is truly a survivor having been cut by the judges as not being talented enough to be selected for the Top 24. We took exception to that decision. Several months later he was called back to be the 25th member of the show that would select the Top 13. His performance of "Dance with My Father" by Luther Vandross sealed the deal with the American public that voted him into Top 10.

America's choice verified our question of what do the judges know? They made some very questionable selections for the Top 24. Jennifer Lopez likes pretty boys, Steven Tyler likes pretty girls and Randy Jackson… well… the jury is still out on him.

American Idol's in house mentor Jimmy Iovine said of Jones, "I could list to a whole album of that voice." Iovine added that during today's times that is a hard thing to say. Iovine didn't say that the quality of music has deteriorated but given what is selling today and the messages many hit rap songs convey it's clear to understand what he inferred. The irony being is Iovine's companies produce and sells rap music. The knock on rap is from us not from Iovine. We do like Eminem.

Jones is a raw talent with a super voice a throwback when singers could actually sing. This week he was not America's top choice as he and Joshua Ledet joined Rosado among the boys that received the least amount of votes.

Rocker Colton Dixon who has a Jim Carey type of look with this blond streak in the front of his hair appears to be an Idol judges and powers that be pretty boy favorite as his photo appears first in the Idol video promotion when the Top 13 were on the show.

This publicity campaign is not in alphabetical order. He's an OK singer with good looks. It appears that he is the Casey Abrams talent of choice this season whom Idol judges have been promoting. The judges admit that they are looking for the entire package of voice, performance, and attitude and though not overtly stated good looks. Apparently the days of Ruben Stoddard are over.

Erica Van Pelt is the last on the promotion video. She is promoted as being a barrister and a mobile DJ. A bit confusing but the girl can sing with her rich powerful tones. She made the Top 24 but not the Top 10 selected by the American public. She was one of the judge's six wild card choices to sing for her life. She succeeded as one of the three that was on the regular season premiere this week but was one of the three girls to receive the least amount of votes along with Shannon Mcgrane and Elise Testone. Telestone received the lowest amount of votes among females but was saved by the judges when she went up against Rosado.

One thing is certain this season has an outstanding assemblage of talent. Selecting a Top 10 will be tough. There are some contestants that may not win but are deserving of the respect and support given to last seasons Pia Toscano who finished 9TH but was signed by Iovine to a record deal and appears to be thriving in Hollyweird.
