THE JONES SET UP ASSASSINATION FOR TV?

It was a no brainer that negative reactions would surface following the disgraceful manner in which American idol executive producers from England Nigel Lythgoe and Kenneth Warwick mishandled the disqualification of Jermaine Jones a 25-year-old African American Pine Hill,l New Jersey.

Jones was disqualified from the competition for outstanding warrants in his home state of New Jersey. The disqualification wasn't the problem it was the way it was handled in exploiting Jones and booby trapping him into an interview highlighted by the sequence and preparation that went into the ridiculous incident. In the past Idol has disqualified contestants when they have had something surface from their past exposed.

Those contestants were dismissed in private and off camera in a dignified, respectful manner and not exploited. To embarrass Jones they went the extra mile in setting up at least two cameras to expose his reaction after they permitted him to rehearse for the following day's show for which they knew beforehand that they weren't going to permit him to participate in. It was a well planned video execution.

Idol's assassination of Jones came to the attention of a New Jersey government official who as noted in the Camden (New Jersey) Courier Post:

A Camden County freeholder on Thursday came to the defense of a South Jersey singer who was booted from "American Idol" due to his arrest record. Freeholder Jeffrey Nash blasted the show's producers for their treatment of Jermaine Jones, a 25-year-old vocal instructor from Pine Hill. Jones was ousted from the show after being confronted on camera over his arrests and outstanding warrants.

"There is never an excuse to break the law or accumulate warrants of any kind," said Nash, who described himself as an "avid fan" of the reality show. "However, for the producers of the billion-dollar show to expose, embarrass and interrogate a young man without an attorney in front of 40 million viewers was an outrage." "In the future, they should do background checks before they start counting their money and playing Judge Judy", he said.

The Associated Press (AP) reported:

In 2009, Jones was cited in Winslow Township. Police said he was driving with a suspended license and gave police a fake name. He didn't show up for his court date and a warrant was issued. A fourth warrant could not be confirmed Thursday; police in Winslow would not comment on the 2009 warrant.

Police in Gloucester Township confirmed Thursday that Jones was arrested twice in the past year. They said he gave police a false name. He failed to appear in court, and two warrants were issued. Police Lt. Christopher Jones said the case "wasn't big enough" to merit going after the singer in California.

This is where the sticky part comes into play. After being unceremoniously booted off the show Jones was interviewed on the Showbiz Tonight television show (available on You Tube) when he expressed disappointment in the manner in which he was treated. He noted that on his American Idol application form the he circled yes that he was previously arrested. He pointed out that there was some information that had to betaken care of requiring him to obtain a lawyer before he could be on the show. He said they did a background check and since nothing came of it that everything was fine.
