THE WINNER IS... KRIS ALLEN over ADAM LAMBERT

Within a four hour period just under 100 million votes were cast according to Telescope's Edward Bottington and Kris Allen is the new American Idol. Upon receiving the news Allen replied, "Are you serious? Adam (Lambert) deserves this. I don't know what to feel right now,"

Both were winners and were given a new car in addition to performing with super stars in the FINALE show which turned out to be the best final that American Idol has ever presented.

Lambert showed his theatrical talent as he sang with KISS. His attire matched theirs and his voice spearheaded a strong performance from the group that could use his talents.

Allen sang with country music star Keith Urban which complimented the now American Idol champion's soft style. Other stars who appeared on the program included Carlos Santana, Rod Stewart, Queen Lateefa, Fergie, the Black Eye Peas and Lionel Ritchie who teamed up with Danny Gokey. That pairing demonstrated how talented Gokey is as he belted out his soulful stylings and was in step with the superstar Ritchie.

All of this seasons 13 Idols performed throughout the show. The highlight was the return of the Bikini Girl who Katrina Darrell who won the Attitude Golden Idol Award. She also sang and was joined on stage in the middle of the song by judge Kara DioGuardi. Darrow appeared stunned. The two had a confrontation during Darrell's audition which almost came to blows but resulted in insults as to who had the better voice.

At the end of their song DioGuardi opened up her dress and exposed herself in a bikini and as host Ryan Seacrest later said to her "nice stomach." After the performance DioGuardi hugged and kissed the Bikini Girl as of all were forgiven. It wasn't the mud wrestling fight that we previously suggested but this will have to do FOR NOW. When Seacrest presented Darrell with her award he said to her that he was going to ask what's new but as he looked at her chest he remarked, "I see," as she was sporting a new boob job.

On the performance show the previous evening it was difficult to say who would win. Lambert had the best voice by far but given the results Allen seems to have charmed the American public with his humility and pleasing voice. The previous week only one million of 88 million votes cast separated the two. It wasn't revealed who had the most votes.

With Lambert you get show biz and a fashion show of trendy clothes with Allen you get down to earth. During the opening of the program host Ryan Seacrest described Lambert as the Glam Rocker and Allen as the Acoustic Rocker.

Each contestant sang three songs one of their choosing, one selected by AI creator Simon Fuller and the third song was 'No Borders' co-written by judge Kara DioGuardi which both Allen and Lambert sang their renditions. It was that song that showed the power of Lamberts voice as he sang it effortlessly while Allen's voice was strained.

Judge Randy Jackson pointed out that the key was too high for Allen and DioGuardi agreed. She then went on to plead to the public not to judge Allen based on that performance but to judge him on the body of his work throughout the season. Obviously they did.

Lambert received the strongest praise of the evening ironically from Simon Cowell who said after his performance of No Borders, "Over the entire season you have been the best, most original talent we have ever had on this show."

Allen didn't go without praise. After he sang his second song What's Going On which was Simon Fullers choice DioGuardi said, "You have a way of creating an intimate bond with every member of the audience when you sing."

Interesting interviews with Lambert and Allen's parents revealed some of their son's history as children. We at National Radio always felt Lambert liked to scream. His father said that Adam couldn't sleep thorough the night without screaming until he was 18 months old.

Allen's mother said that when Kris was young he didn't want to sing for them. They then paid him a quarter to do so. As time went on his asking price to sing went up. A few years ago he gave his mother coupons for her birthday. That enabled her to present him with a coupon for him to sing a song to her for free. She said it was one of the best gifts she has ever received.

Overall the performance show was a bland affair as was the entire season. It's difficult to put a finger on the reasons why but this season the program had less quality than the previous AI contests. The fault can't be blamed on the contestants. On the whole the production seemed to lack the spark and excitement of the previous seasons.

The addition of the save rule did nothing but clutter up the program and gave too much power to the judges as well as camera time that would have been better served focusing on the contestants.

On one show the judges talked so much they ran overtime. The following show they introduced a rule that only two judges could critique a contestant so they could finish the show on schedule. The following week they permitted all of the judges to critique each contestant. Basically this season resembled a comedy of errors.
