Video Beat - AMERICAN IDOLS CASEY ABRAMS SHOT DOWN BUT NOT OUT

Without a doubt Casey Abrams is the most talented MUSICIAN ever on American Idol. He received the least amount of votes for the second time last week and is off the show. The good news is he is well prepared to possibly have one of the most successful careers in the entertainment business than any Idol contestant ever. Abrams is schooled and prepared - Recommended TV Listings

HE'S ON HIS WAY

The American Idol judges favorite contestant received the least amount of votes for the second time and was eliminated and this time the judges could do nothing about it as they used their only save on Casey Abrams in the 11th position. At that time we asked what will happen when a singer with a better voice has to be saved and the save is all used up? That came about when the super voiced Pia Toscano was eliminated in the 9th position.

Since that time Abrams has charmed his way for five extra weeks on the show to the sixth position where at that point it was all said and done, he is out of the competition.

Though his warm smile and charm will be missed there's no need to hold a pity party for the 20-year-old musician. As the shows in house mentor Jimmy Iovine said that Abrams will do just fine in his career as a musician and songwriter. Prior to Abrams last performance on the show Iovine noted that Abrams, "Doesn't realize that he doesn't have to growl (when he sings).

Abrams response is that he's so excited to let his singing put and that he has a tiny hole to get through that result in his growling. For certain of the Top 13 Abrams was the least talented singer. He never found one true voice. His best effort was in the second edition of the 11th position when two contestants were eliminated to make up for his save. Abrams sang Elton John's "Your Song" in his natural voice and it was excellent. We were shocked he could sing such a difficult song so well. His performance was good enough to set him on a path of four consecutive weeks without being voted into the Bottom 3.

It was all she wrote for Abrams last week but strange enough his is prepared to have the most successful career of anyone on the show. For starters he is an excellent musician with good tastes in jazz. You'll never hear him sing or play three chord rock songs, he's a real musician. Without a doubt Casey Abrams is the most talented MUSICIAN ever on American Idol as noted by judge Randy Jackson a musician himself. The irony is Abrams success on the show is largely due to his musicianship and not his voice. In the past Idol was a strictly singing contest ONLY until a few years ago when they permitted contestants to play instruments.

The change in the rules permitting contestants to use their instruments was largely due to some past Idols complaining that they could have had a better performance if they could have accompanied themselves with their instruments as many competitors had a background of playing with bands. To our recollection David Cook was the first to win the competition with that change in the rules.

Abrams is schooled in music. He was a student at Idyllwild Arts Academy in Idyllwild, California, where his father teaches film production. At Idyllwild Arts, he studied classical bass instruction and improvisation, and participated in the jazz ensembles, gaining a foundation in music history, piano, and jazz piano, and learning to write musical scores for films.

After graduating from Idyllwild in 2009, he attended University of Colorado at Boulder as a music major. He worked as a film camp counselor at Idyllwild Arts Summer Camp prior to his appearance on American Idol. Abrams lists as his musical influences Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Oscar Peterson, and James Taylor, as well as Marshall Hawkins, head of the jazz department at Idyllwild Arts Academy.

To top that Abrams personality, intelligence and likeability factor is the perfect foundation for him to become an excellent situation comedy actor. Since his elimination Abrams has appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on April 29, 2011, and Live with Regis and Kelly on May 2, 2011.

In the past we have criticized Abrams for his lack of a strong voice and felt that the judges were foolish to use their save so early in the competition. When we asked what will happen when a contestant with a better voice needs to be saved and it's all used up there had to be an answer. That someone was Pia Toscano who we now feel has the BEST VOICE in the competition that was eliminated in the 9th position. In the world of shoulda, woulda, coulda if the judges woulda used the save for Pia Toscano as they shoulda she coulda won the contest. Ya know what we're say-yin?

Overall the bottom line is we didn't come to bury Abrams we came to praise him.
