CAMBODIA SHOWS ITS UGLY SIDE

The documentary Red Light about the child sex trade in Cambodia tops our NR Top 10 charts this month. It also was our fastest rising story. The review gives examples of the stories shown in the film of what the poor neglected families of Cambodia are subject to in having no money to eat and support themselves due to the lack of a social system to assist them. The result being many poor families sell their children into the sex trade.

The video tells the story of a child as young as 8 who was sold and abused in the Khmer sex trade. The reality is children as young as 4 are sold into the business. The 8-year-old child had a portion of her finger cut off after a Khmer customer didn't have the money to pay her and he accused her of stealing his cash and the brothel owner believed him and lopped off her finger proof that the Khmer Rouge mentality lives on.

Four of this month's Top 10 stories emanated from our Video Beat columns of TV/video reviews. Three are from our Sports Notes columns, two Year in Review columns and one from our Phnom Penh coverage.

The second and third spots were taken from our 2010 Year in Review columns. Part 2 YIR featuring former US VP Dick Cheney took the second spot. The snarling former VP paid the Nigerian government a stay out of jail fine of US $250 million for bribery in behalf of Halliburton Corp which is well known for providing war materials and services. This was a story that was ignored by the majority of the major media particularly in the USA. We came across it from Britain's Guardian newspaper.

CNN the self proclaimed news network and the BBC took the time to attack Julian Assange over where he placed his private member and rehash Tiger Woods marital problems. Obviously Cheney's criminal acts of F8#@ing his countries reputation is of less importance than where one places their private parts in the PRIVATE LIVES. Cheney was in office when America invaded Iraq to destroy their weapons of mass destruction that NEVER EXISTED. A professional news organization would recognize that his history is more important a story than a non public figures sexual exploits.

Part 1 of the Year in Review took the third spot. That featured one of the world's most famous fugitives former Thailand Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. From those results it's obvious that Cheney is a bigger story than Shinawatra. In both instances up to this point they are an example that CRIME DOES PAY…. and RATHER HANDSOMELY.

Many of the remaining NR Top 10 stories are repeats. What stands out the most is our review on three of Oliver Stones films that DEPICT THE PRODUCT OF WAR which took the eighth position. Ninth place went to a Phnom Penh story about their national rugby team. The meat of that column describes the dangers of Phnom Penh of the lack of police protection with the subject being PROTECT & SERVE. PEDESTRIAN ALERT points out the dangers of having to walk in the streets since the sidewalks are used as an extension of business and parking for the residents and POWERFUL PEOPLE who are described as VIP's.

The mysterious burning of villages is also noted. After the burning for the most part the land is grabbed and developed and the residents are displaced. It's a scenario that has been repeated over and over again in the greedy development of Phnom Penh.

SECTIONS MOST VISITED

The Sections Most Visited chart had a number of changes. After a three month absence Soccer returns and takes the first position. After a month off the charts the Entertainment section makes a strong return to take the fourth spot. The same applies to Sports Notes that ranks fifth.

The LA Lakers returned after several months off the charts to rank 8th. After two months off the charts BIZ WHO IS returns in notching the 9th spot. The Business and BIT (Internet Technology) sections return after a month off and took the 9th and 10th spots respectively.

Our Archive story is devoted to the recent Grammy Awards show in our Asian Equation feature from 2001 that came about from our interest a decade ago in what music personalities Asian youths preferred.
